On October 18, 2012 at the conference hall of GTTU, the students of Journalism of the Faculty of Social Sciences met with French colleagues: Thierry Comme, Julienne Lampanne, Sophi Jesnee and Irakli Manjavidze. The format of the meeting was consultative. The guests shared their experience with the future journalists.
Tierry Comme, the founder of Master’s degree program in the European Journalism of Rhyme University spoke about the methods and ways of teaching Journalism in France. He compared the teaching style accepted in Georgian Journalism to that of French one, stressing the current changes going on in this sphere.
Mr. Comme stressed the importance of such issues as the questions put by the journalist, and trustworthiness of the information. According to his speech, the journalist has special responsibilities before the society. Therefore, he should always work on his professional development.
In his opinion, in relevance of the theoretical knowledge, the students must be provided the corresponding professional practice. It will increase their chances for future career development and job placement in competitive environment.
Irakli Manjavidze spoke about the concepts of professional freedom and individualism. He mentioned that each journalist should have his own style that makes him different from the others. He advised future journalists to work much more on themselves and try to catch up with modern requirements.
Julienne Lampanne, the journalist of ‘Young Radio’ spoke about the specificity of the journalism and special appeal of radio journalism in modern media.
Sophi Jesnee spoke about the newspapers ‘La Crua’ and ‘tribune’, radio RFI“and the complexities accompanying the profession of Journalist. French Journalists got acquainted and very impressed with material technical base of the University.
