Panel discussion: Professional Development of a lawyer

On October 31, 2024, Georgian International University GIU hosted representatives of the Legal Aid Office.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Service and GIU, within the framework of which the students of the law program of GIU are given the opportunity to practice with the lawyers of the Legal Aid Office.

The second part of the meeting was devoted to a panel discussion on the topic: ,,Professional Development of a lawyer”.

The panel discussion covered such topics as:

• Peculiarities of the legal profession and existing challenges;

• The importance of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the legal profession;

• How to choose specialization in law.

• What stages should a young lawyer go through to be able to realize his potential.

• What does the Legal Aid Office offer to young people who want to become a lawyer, what are the services of the Office, what pressure can a public lawyer face from society when he defends a serious accused person.

The panel meeting was chaired by:

- Davit Simonia - Director of the Legal Aid Office.; Lawyer in criminal law;

- Ioseb Gabarevi - Professor of the Georgian International University GIU; lawyer;

- Giorgi Svianadze - Co-Manager of the law undergraduate educational program; Associate Professor.

The discussion was moderated by the dean of GIU School of Law and Politics; Associate professor, Tatia Dolidze.
